CLOUDS IN TIME-LAPSE PHOTOGRAPHY: THE UNSEEN SEA

The Unseen Sea, a timelapse video by San Francisco, California formed photographer, Simon Christen, has left viral on Vimeo, racking up over 1.5 million views since it has been posted. The camera work seen here took place at assorted locations via San Francisco over the course of a year. Sit back, relax, and take a impulse to enjoy:

“It’s often shot with a Canon 40D solely one shot. The last haze call one was shot with the 5D mk2 because that night my shiver on the 40D crapped out,” Christen noted. As distant as lenses, Christen says he used a multiple of  either a Canon 10-22mm, 24-70mm, or a 70-200mm.

“I am regularly sharpened in full primer mode and then regulate the bearing as the light changes. The bearing really varies depending on the shot. For example a splendid city needs shorter shiver speeds then haze bright by moon light. The night shots take a little while to constraint all the light. For example the haze waves attack the mountainous country was shot at ISO 640, f/2.8 and we hold 4sec shiver speed. As the light changes we just keep adjusting possibly one of these settings. The shiver speeds ends up being around 4-5 sec with the orifice far-reaching open and tall ISO settings. I take caring of the “jumps” after in post. This way we get to take a design every 5-6 seconds.”

The “jumps” he mentions are edited out manually in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premier  using the Curve Filter, and then left over a second time using Granite Softwares GBDeflicker filter.
