Remembering Tim Hetherington

Very unhappy headlines in the photography universe today. Tim Hetherington, the fight photographer and Oscar hopeful who was a senior manager and writer of the movie “Restrepo,” was killed in Libya Wednesday, and 3 photographers operative next to him were critically wounded.

It is reported that they were struck by a rocket-propelled explosive device while operative in the war-torn Libyan city of Misrata. Chris Hondros, a photographer operative for Getty Images, postulated a serious brain damage in the situation and stays in intensely vicious condition. Guy Martin, a British adult operative for the Panos print agency, had shrapnel wounds and underwent vascular operation which softened his prospects. Michael Christopher Brown, suffered shrapnel injuries to a shoulder, and is in fast condition.

In 2007,  Tim Hetherington won the desired World Press Photo of the Year Award for his coverage of American soldiers in the Korengal Valley—one of 3 World Press prizes he received. In 2010, he co-directed and constructed the Oscar-nominated documentary Restrepo which was famous for the decidedly apolitical proceed to the war. we watched this movie a few months ago and it is very absolute indeed, one of the best documentaries we have ever seen.

“This is a harmful detriment to many of us personally,” pronounced Kenneth Roth, the senior manager executive of Human Rights Watch, which was examining options to redeem his remains. “But it is also a harmful detriment to the tellurian rights community. His work has lifted the prominence of many of the world’s lost conflicts. May the bequest of his well-developed photographs offer to enthuse destiny generations.”
